The Story

Dick and Jan Hedges, three-time retirees from the field of education, have turned their love of reading and writing into a dream come true with Hedgehog.INK!

Both are avid readers and aspiring writers. Dick has written a weekly column for the Fort Scott Tribune for over 50 years.

Jan and Dick Hedges

Dick was widowed in 2006 and Jan in 2008. They had known each other some 30 years earlier, reconnected and were married in 2011 when Jan moved to Fort Scott.

The story continues…

Sadly, Dick’s journey ended on March 11, 2022. However, his love of reading and writing continue to flourish under the direction of Jan and her book-loving staff. The bookstore is an on-going story, unfolding day by day.

“We are a store full of books but the best stories are the ones who walk in our door”.

And the story continues...

Jordan, Ivan, Ava, Lydia and Randi Witt

As of February 1, 2024, Jan will no longer be the owner of Hedgehog.INK! She has decided it is time to finally, really retire. The new owners are Randi and Jordan Witt, lifetime residents of Fort Scott.

My name is Randi Witt, and I am thrilled to announce that I am taking over the Bookstore from Jan on February 1st. Dick and Jan built something special in Fort Scott. The name of the store will remain, Hedgehog.INK!
So you know a little about me...I grew up in Fort Scott and have lived here most of my life. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart, Jordan, for 26 years and we have 3 kids, Ivan, Ava, and Lydia.

I have a marketing degree from Pittsburg State, but most recently have worked in various roles in the Fort Scott school district. Reading and writing have always had a special place in my heart. To be able to combine a love with a business is a dream come true! I am so thankful for this opportunity to fulfill a personal dream, but also to share this dream with my kids.
We plan to work and grow this business together. I know I have a lot to learn, but I am so excited to jump right in!
